Who was Oleg Losev and why is it called Losevi Light / Lossew Lamp?

LED, or light-emitting diode technology, was pioneered by Soviet inventor Oleg Vladimirovich Losev, who had Georgian heritage through his mother.

Oleg Losev was born on May 10, 1903, in the city of Tver, Soviet Union.

From an early age, he realized that his calling was science. In the fifth grade, he set up a secret laboratory at home, where he built his first electrical “radio.”

It was a semiconductor-based transmitter-receiver device. At that time, the inventor was only 19 years old.

1923

He discovered the phenomenon of electroluminescence, also known as “Losevi Light.”

This discovery laid the foundation for the development of LED technology.

His research on this phenomenon received wide international recognition. His scientific works were published multiple times in various scientific journals.

1925–1926

He studied and discovered the possibility of signal frequency conversion in nonlinear two-terminal elements.

The scientist received a patent for a device called a “light relay,” but unfortunately, during his lifetime, this invention had no practical application.

Today, light relays are used, for example, in street lighting systems to automatically turn lights on at night.

1927–1928

He discovered the ability of crystals to convert light energy into electrical energy - the same principle used in modern solar panels.

His technology was far ahead of its time.

Only in the late 1950s, in the United States, did scientists manage to create what is known as the “first LED,” based on the light emission effect discovered by Losev.

Why is it called Losevi Light / Lossew Lamp?

We want to honor the physicist and proudly carry his name.

That is why we named the company “Losevi Light • Losevi.”
